Why they are here
A historian and activist whose book How Europe Underdeveloped Africa (1972) became one of the most influential works of African and Caribbean scholarship.
Rodney was banned from Jamaica in 1968, sparking protests, and returned to Guyana, where he co-founded the Working People's Alliance. He was killed by a bomb in Georgetown in 1980; a commission of inquiry reported in 2016 that the state had been involved.
